Formula 1 driving
Most of my driving time has been spent on open wheel driving, specifically current regulation (2018-2025) cars provided by VRC in Assetto Corsa. The VRC Formula Alpha was selected instead of the RSS Formula Hybrid for the accuracy of the hybrid system and car controls. The Formula Alpha allows for precise editing of deployment maps, which ultimately can decide if a qualification attempt is fast enough for pole position, or a would-be P21 on the starting grid.
Every week (almost) I follow the F1 grid to each track and attempt a qualifying lap. Some weeks I have more time than others for practice, and it really shows how being able to put in real simulator hours and deliberately studying available resources such as F1TV Weekend Warmup, Tech Talk, driver on-board footage, and telemetry available via FastF1 python package and the F1 API can lead to immediate results. VRC has provided already configured setups for some tracks, however the following lap times were set after adjusting the car setup and deployment maps myself after learning and working the tracks.
Mexico City Grand Prix Hotlap Attempt
This time was fast enough for a would-be P1 after Q3.
Lap time: 1:15.541
Bahrain Grand Prix Hotlap Attempt
This time was fast enough for a would-be P8 on the grid, just .112 faster than Carlos Sainz's actual lap time.
Lap time: 1:30.568
Azerbaijan Grad Prix Hotlap Attempt
This lap time was fast enough for a would-be P2 behind the champion Max Verstappen on Pole Position.
Lap time: 1:41.278
Sports Car driving
For "fun", I drive Hypercar/GTP and LMGT3/GTD cars, mostly from Porsche. I prefer the URD Darsche 922/23 for GT3 driving - specifically the Laurin Heinrich edition with the upgraded physics and tyre models. For Hypercars, I use the RSS MPH Protech P96 V8. If I have time, I will follow whatever the IMSA or WEC race for the weekend is, and put in an hour or two stent on the sim while the race is ongoing. These laps are not necessarily competitive, but show off a different style.
Petite Le Mans lap
Practice running at Road Atlanta for the 2025 Petite Le Mans. This was run using the previously mentioned URD Darsche 992/23, which is just a Porsche 911 992.2 GT3 RS by a different name. Run in none other than the AO racing 'Rexy' livery, this is by far my favorite sports car.
Lap time: 1:20.980
Le Mans 24 hour lap
A hypercar lap in the RSS MPH Protech P96 V8, or the Porsche 963 if you prefer. Hypercars are incredibly fun to drive. All the fun and intuitiveness of a sports car, and all (most) of the power and speed of a Formula 1 car. The inclusion of traditional and lateral traction control, as well as the addition of ABS coming from mostly F1 driving, makes this a joy to drive at Sarthe.
